Hey guys! I hope you’re all having a lovely week and have something enjoyable planned for the weekend.
I have some kind of exciting news: As of yesterday, we are officially looking for a house to buy! I’m honestly so incredibly grateful to finally be at this point in my life. It’s taken a lot to get here. Not a day goes by where I don’t stop to reflect on how blessed I am to not only have a roof over my head, but to be looking for a place that’s truly mine. I can’t wait to show you the place we choose and the home improvements we do over the coming years!
With that news out of the way, today I wanted to share a super simple furniture makeover I did recently.
Last week I found this little side table put out for collection on the side of the road. While the colour was a bit dated, I loved the design. So I decided to pick it up and repaint it.
Once the paint was dry, I sealed the whole thing with Rust-Oleum’s Ultra-Matte protective top coat. I applied a single coat on the legs and sides and a double coat on the top. I’m not sure if the double coat is really necessary, but I’m notorious for spilling stuff on furniture, so I wanted to be extra safe.
By itself the table looked a bit “meh” next to the couch. To fix this, I decided to add a few small styling elements. I didn’t want the decorative elements to take up too much room on the already small side table, so I decided to keep things simple with a vase, tray, and little bird statuette.
I wanted to tie the floral arrangement in with the blue-striped tie closure throw pillow I sewed a few months ago, so I opted for a combination of blue hydrangeas and white peonies. I also added a few stems of artificial eucalyptus just to bulk out the arrangement a little bit. You can get similar white peonies here and similar eucalyptus stems here.
The bird is from TK Maxx in Australia. I can’t find the same bird online, but if you’d like something similar, you could always give any old bird figurine a faux concrete finish.
Overall, even though it’s super basic, I’m pretty happy with how my little table makeover worked out. In total, I used about $10AUD worth of paint and sealant, which was heaps cheaper than buying a similar new side table.
Have a lovely day!
