Hey guys! I hope you’re all having a lovely week and have something enjoyable planned for the weekend.
I have some kind of exciting news: As of yesterday, we are officially looking for a house to buy! I’m honestly so incredibly grateful to finally be at this point in my life. It’s taken a lot to get here. Not a day goes by where I don’t stop to reflect on how blessed I am to not only have a roof over my head, but to be looking for a place that’s truly mine. I can’t wait to show you the place we choose and the home improvements we do over the coming years.
With that news out of the way, today I wanted to share a little furniture makeover I did recently.
Last week I found this little side table put out for collection on the side of the road. While the colour was a bit dated, I loved the design. So I decided to pick it up and repaint it.
As the coating on the top was chipping off, I started by giving the top a quick sand with my orbital sander. Next, I applied three thin coats of Rust-Oleum’s Chalked Paint in Linen White. I didn’t really have a particular technique – I just brushed it on until it looked okay.
Once the paint was dry, I sealed the whole thing with Rust-Oleum’s Ultra-Matte protective top coat. I applied a single coat on the legs and sides and a double coat on the top. I’m not sure if the double coat is really necessary, but I’m notorious for spilling stuff on furniture, so I wanted to be extra safe.
Overall, even though it’s super basic, I really like my little side table. In total, I used about $10AUD worth of paint and sealant, which was heaps cheaper than buying a similar new side table.
