Hey lovely people!
Last month I mentioned that we’ve started looking for a place to buy. After putting literally all of our energy/time/money into this goal for the last few years, I’m BEYOND excited to finally be at the “actually inspecting places” stage of the process.
Now that we’re thiiiiiis close, I’m trying to finalise how I’d like to decorate each room. So each week I’ve been spending a little bit of time browsing the internet for inspiration/online window shopping, trying to create some sort of cohesive design plan.
Below I’ve shared what I might like to do with my future breakfast nook/dining room in the form of a mood board (much like the laundry mood board I made a few weeks ago). I’ve also included some notes about my plans. They’re mostly for my own reference, but they’re there if you enjoy reading the stupid decorating ramblings of a crazy woman.
French country inspired breakfast nook
As most of you are in the US, I’ve included both US and Australian sources. If I cannot find the exact product, I’ve linked to a similar item. Links to similar items are marked with an asterisk (*).
Dining table (US / AU) | Cross-back chairs (US* / AU) | Linen placemat (US / AU) | Greenery (US) | Sisal rug (US / AU) | White jug (US) | White chair cushions (US* / AU) | Wood frames (US) | Lace curtains (US / AU)
Some notes on the breakfast nook
The dining table and chairs
In an ideal world, I’d love to pair the chairs with this (US / AU) dining table from Pottery Barn. It’s way outside of my current budget, so I’ll probably try to make a similar table or find one second-hand (I love me a good afternoon wasted browsing Facebook Marketplace). But I wanted to include it because it’s serious #tablegoals.
(I’ve reached the stage in my life where I have table goals. I’m soooo cool *finger guns*.)
The soft furnishings
I’d like to add a rug and a throw blanket to keep the area nice and cozy on frosty winter mornings.
I’m leaning towards using a round sisal rug because:
- They’re easy to match with things
- They hide stains well.
And I like staining rugs. Just ask the rug in my living room, the one that’s had not one, not two, but three whole cups of coffee spilt on it in the last two months. I am the most elegant woman alive.
I can’t find a throw I like at the moment. Unless something comes up, I’ll probably sew my own, as I enjoyed making the ruffled throw from an old sheet a few weeks ago.
Okay, so. I’m trying to convince myself that when we move I’ll ditch my “leave fresh flowers to literally rot” habit and turn into some sort of homemaking goddess who is responsible enough to have fresh flowers on the dining table at all times.
But this is most definitely a lie.
So I’ll probably just pop some artificial flowers in a vase, just to add a little bit of colour to the space.
To finish the space off, I’d love to create some sort of small gallery wall. My current plan is to have four 8″ x 10″ wooden frames with pictures of flowers in them, similar to the vintage botanical prints I posted last year.
Do you guys have any current decorating plans or goals? I’d love to hear about them and excitedly exchange ideas in the comments!
